Asia Kakehashi Project 2025 – Selection Journey of Sri Lankan Students

Sputnik Sri Lanka proudly announces the selection of outstanding Sri Lankan students for the Asia Kakehashi Project 2025, a prestigious academic and cultural exchange program fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT Japan).

This program provides selected high school students across Asia with the opportunity to spend one academic year in Japan, attending a Japanese high school, living with a host family or in dormitories, and fully immersing themselves in Japanese culture, society, and language.

Japanese Language Test

Saturday, 29th March 2025

The journey began with the Japanese Language Test, where 100 students from various regions of Sri Lanka gathered to demonstrate their language skills and interest in Japanese culture.

Physical Test, Talent Show & Interviews

Saturday, 5th April 2025

Based on the results of the language test, 26 students were shortlisted and invited to the second round at the Sputnik Japanese Campus.

This stage included a physical fitness assessment, a talent show, and personal interviews with the selection committee. These activities helped assess each student’s communication ability, creativity, leadership, adaptability, and readiness for an intercultural experience.

Final Selection at the Embassy of Japan

Thursday, 10th April 2025

The top 6 finalists were then invited to the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka for the final interviews.
This marked the final stage of the selection process. Students participated in discussions with embassy officials and program coordinators to demonstrate their motivation and suitability to represent Sri Lanka in Japan.

Four Students Chosen for Japan

Following the final round of interviews held at the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, four exceptional students have been officially selected to join the Asia Kakehashi Project 2025 cohort.

These students stood out for their academic excellence, leadership potential, and deep interest in intercultural learning. They will proudly represent Sri Lanka during their one-year fully funded academic and cultural exchange program in Japan.

    Musaeus College, Colombo

These young ambassadors will live with host families or in dormitories, attend Japanese high schools, and immerse themselves in Japanese culture and society—building bridges of friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka.

Preparation for Departure

The selected students are currently undergoing pre-departure training, including Japanese language instruction, cultural orientation sessions, and other preparatory activities to ensure a smooth transition to life in Japan.
